FAQs

What should I wear?

You do not need any special clothing, a track-suit or loose comfortable clothing is ideal. A uniform featuring the official IKMF logo is available.

What equipment do I need ?

All training equipment is provided. Men should consider buying a groin guard as classes progress. You may also wish to buy forearm and shin protectors. Steve can advise on this.

How fit should I be ?

Krav Maga is designed for men, women and children of all ages and abilities. It is not about sheer strength or power. Being fit will help and your fitness will improve the more you train.

How much does it cost ?

The class prices can be found on the Timetable page. Please contact Steve for prices on one-to-one and group coaching.

Are there gradings ?

There are different levels in Krav Maga, each building on the previous one. If you wish, you can prepare for and take a test and then go on to the next level. Unlike other martial arts, there are no national competitions.

Are the people friendly ?

Krav Maga classes are friendly and informal. Unlike some martial arts, there are no rituals, nor different ways of treating people based on their experience. Instructors use their first name. The focus is on learning the techniques and applying them.

Are there women-only classes ?

It is true that some of the attacks that women and men could face may be different. There isn't a female-only class at the moment, however, if you are interested in one, please contact Steve.

How long will it take to learn ?

Krav Maga is designed to be quick to pick up and easy to remember. You will learn useful, practical things from lesson one. With regular practice the first grade could be taken in around six months.

Is it safe ?

Like any martial art or sport, there is the possibility of injury. Steve always does a full warm-up to reduce the risk. He has many years of coaching experience, and is a trained first aider.
